“Leadership is an activity, not a position!”

At the beginning of the month, I was invited to give a keynote for a Swiss bank. One sentence from the CEO, in particular, has stayed with me:

„Leadership is an activity, not a position.“

This quote captures what leadership truly means. Leadership is not a matter of title or hierarchy. It’s not about what position is written on your business card—but about how we act, every day, in every situation.

Leadership is expressed through taking initiative, assuming responsibility, and having the courage to explore new paths. It is the willingness to support others, inspire, listen, motivate, and find solutions together. Anyone can demonstrate leadership—regardless of their role within the organization.

Especially in today’s dynamic work environment, we need people who take initiative and lead by example. Leadership is a matter of character, a mindset—and above all, a daily choice!
